Course Review – Walden Ponds

We recently had an opportunity to play Walden Ponds golf course on a beautiful Sunday afternoon.  It was a perfect day for golf and the course didn’t disappoint. When we arrived, the parking lot was full.  No surprise on a gorgeous day and no football games being played.  We checked in at the pro shop and were met by a friendly young man.  He informed us that we were paired up with a couple that plays the course regularly.  Again, no surprise on a busy Sunday.  They were a friendly couple that were happy to give us some insights on how to play the course.

We checked in with the starter and were surprised to see the hole wide open.  Then, we realized there was an outing being played.  Our first thoughts were “this is going to be a long round.”  We finished 18 in about four and a half hours.  While we ran into some groups from the outing, the marshals were doing a great job ensuring that things kept moving.

The course itself was in great shape.  In spite of the course being pretty full, the fairways were very nice as were the greens.  They rolled true and we had no problems with unrepaired ball marks.  The rough wasn’t so high that it made for difficult play.  It’s a well maintained course that we really enjoyed.  The course meanders through a subdivision with houses along many holes.  It’s no different than many courses in the area and wasn’t a factor in our round.

Walden Ponds is a course that can challenge the experienced golfer but is still playable for the less skilled.  Like most courses, choose your tees wisely and you will have a great time.  It’s well maintained with a friendly staff.  A driving range and practice green are available for that pre-round warm up.  While it wasn’t one of those scorching hot late summer days we get in Cincinnati, it was refreshing to get an ice cold bottle of water from the beverage cart.

We booked our round through the Walden Ponds website at an advertised rate of $36.  That’s a reasonable price for a round at a facility as nice as this.  We had a great day of golf and were challenged by many of the holes.  Actually, the way I play…most of the holes.  It’s a great course and we can’t wait to play here again.
